Why are we here?

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:46 pm by davislar

Have you ever passed through a struggle so profound, so all encompassing, you simply want to give in to the temptation to throw up your hands and scream, “I GIVE?”  Have you ever looked around and asked yourself what is the point?  Is it worth it?  What has been accomplished?  Of course you have, and if you haven’t, you will.  We sure are!  Today Mark asked if I ever want to give up.  I answered yes!  To which he replied, “Then we just need to trust in God and continue doing what He calls us to do.”  So in faith and obedience, we look to our Lord and remember His words:

“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.  And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”  James 1:2-4

It is not a matter of if you face trials, but when, and the Lar is in the midst of some of our greatest trials. Pray for us to keep our eyes on our unchanging God.  (James 1:7)  Pray for Mark’s guidance, encouragement, and wisdom as we confront these changes.  Pray for our steadfastness in the face of attacks from unexpected places.

So to remind ourselves of why we are here, let’s look at recent encouragements.

A special thanks to Mark Brown who came down recently with Taylor’s First Baptist.

He reopened our eyes to successes!  He fell in love with two little girls, Rosangela and Rosemare, and marvelled at their manners, their love for others and their servants hearts.  He praised the lar for molding such wonderful girls.  That is why we are here.

We have hired a new administrator, and many of the Lar friends know him.  Marcio Gomez will join us with his wife, Dione, and their two children December 1.  Together we will create an administrative team prepared to confront the challenges, mourn the failures, and celebrate the victories.  That is why we are here.

Lenita has 9’s and 10’s in all her course work.  We are so proud of her!!  And many of the other girls have showed marked improvement in their school work.  We thank the timeless effort of Eneide and Fran, our tutors.  That is why we are here.

Mark Eisenhower (referred to as Mark E. so as not to confuse him with the mighty Mark Anderson) has made a huge impact at the lar, and not simply because he is 6’5″!  He runs recreation with our boys,  and is busy all day long teaching computer skills and word processing.  Pray for him as he considers his future plans.  We have him until May 1, and his immediate contribution and flexibility causes us to thank our Lord.  (Yet while he and Matt don’t have the stomach to ride the waves on a jangada, we won’t hold that against him.) Mark E.’s impact will change lives eternally.  That is why we are here.

Pray for Jesse, another really tall volunteer coming down in January!!  Mark E. is getting ready for you, Jesse.  He’s already got your schedule in mind.:) Welcoming volunteers!  That is why we are here.

Nayara,  the other Nayara pictured with Nayara, has become a life coach.  She has joined the Davis Lar by volunteering with the teens, guiding them to structure a solid, God centered life.  Her focus is preparing the teens with life skills for success in the real world, while focusing on Christ as the center.  She also disciples one on one with Nilnara as Nil fast approaches the age of 20, the age we have set for her to be out on her own.  That is why we are here.

First Baptist Church of Fortaleza promoted “Casa do Julgamento”, through which over 700 people accepted Christ.  We are so thankful to them for inviting 5 of our girls, Liliane, Amanda, Tayane, Aurilene and Alice to serve in the wardrobe department.  Nayara played a part in the bar scene, Ana Flavia was in the Judgement, and my Rachel screamed for 4 hours a night in Hell.  What a privilege for all of them to be a part of such a  huge, earth moving production and to experience the power of Christ through serving others.  How proud we are that they served faithfully.  That is why we are here.

We have a received a new child-a young girl- who was in a deperate situation.    Luana is precious-see her pic.  Pray for her transition into the lar.  That is why we are here.

The sponsorship seems to be growing, and while some donations have gone down,  we have had surprise funds come in that God is using to meet our needs.  You know who you are, and thank you so much! We provide everything from toilet paper to medical care for these precious children.  That is why we are here.

Our teen boys house has pulled a “Lord of the Flies” on us, and we are having to take measures.  Mark hauled a few of them into the police station to file theft reports, and while this does serve as a wake up call, for a few it is too late.  Through this Mark has asked himself if what we do really makes a difference.  It does.  However, there are some children that no matter how wonderful what you have to offer is, they choose the false freedom of sin and the street.  Pray for the Lar through this transition!  Pray for the seeds planted to sprout in the future, for that is why we are here.

Pray for the Lar and tia’s.  We had a minor influx of tia’s, but then we had three quit.  We need tia’s or we will be closing homes.   We are creating a flier to pass out to the churches, so pray for tia’s responses.  Pray for tia’s with the natural ability to balance love and discipline.  Pray for Penha as she continues to oversee and train our tia’s.  Pray for Mark as he is being a tia, or in his case, a masculine TIO.  (It IS very good for the boys, but we miss him.)  Pray for tia’s to sense their calling to ministry.  That is why we are here.

We have hired a lawyer to handle the closing of our transition home, as the realtor did not pay the seller what was due.  Pray as we have a court appearance December 5th.  Pray for the seller to receive what she is due, and for the transfer to be finalized.  The transition home has been a great success with Luciano and Sandra providing the guidance the boys need as they transition into society while maintaining their Godly values.  That is why we are here.

So knowing why we are here, remembering the successes, encourages us to continue in the face of the battles.  Those who know us, know I am much more likely to throw in the towel than my husband.  So I will remember, memorize and study God’s letter’s to me, and this week focus on considering it all joy.

Keep praying for the battle is here and it is not against the flesh and blood.  Much love.  Paige
